A: No, we do not. SDI sells fire rated wood doors for commercial use. We also sell fire rated wood frames, sidelights as well as custom wood mouldings.

Q: What is the difference between 5 ply doors and 7 ply doors?
A: 7 ply doors are generally cold-pressed and may or may not have bonded construction. They are also not always available in certain species or cores. 5 ply doors are hot pressed and have a bonded core. They are also available in many species and cores.

Q: What is the maximum size for a 20 minute light cut out?
A: The cutout size varies based on what type of glazing material is specified.

Q: How long has SDI been in business?
A: Since April 1987

Q: Does SDI sell anything besides wood doors?
A: Wood doors, wood frames and sidelights, borrowed lights, standing and running trim, metal vision kits and some bifold and bypass hardware.

Q: Is SDI required to provide casing for rated wood frames?
A: No, SDI is not required, however SDI has a wide range of profiles and custom knife grinding.

Q: Do you pre-hang doors in the frames?
A: Not normally. It has been our experience that the door should be installed on the site. Remember a 3/0 x 7/0 solid core door weighs approximately 100 lbs. We pre-drill the pilot holes for the hinges and assemble the frames.

Q: Can doors and frames be pre-finished together?
A: Yes

Q: Can you glaze openings?
A: Yes

Q: Is SDI flexible in providing doors to meet end-user requirements?
A: Yes. An example would be our plastic laminate (PLAM) doors. We can custom size, laminate in high gloss, metal finish or wood finish laminates. SDI can paint glass stops to match faces. SDI can provide the above the 20-minute PLAM door ready to ship in 3 weeks or sooner.

Q: Does SDI do on-site finishing?
A: Yes. Summit has complete in-house finishing department. When leadtimes do not allow factory finishing by Egger's we can match all standard colors or match your sample. .

Q: Are you affiliated with the Summit Door in California and do you have any other locations?
A: No and no.

Q: Do you take any major credit cards?
A: Currently we do not

Q: Do you stock glass?
A: Yes. We currently stock 1/4" wire and safety glass in a variety of sizes. Other sizes can be ordered. In the coming year SDI will be offering in-house glass cutting.

Q: Do you stock any stile and rail doors?
A: No, not intentionally, but we may have a couple lying around. We can usually get whatever stile and rail configuration you want from a couple of vendors in as little as 3 weeks.

Q: How many states does SDI ship to?
A: We have shipped doors to Anchorage, Alaska, downtown Manhattan, and points in between.

Q: How many doors does SDI stock?
A: 3000 - 4000

Q: Does SDI sell residential doors?
A: Generally not.

Q: Can we buy SDI's 20 minute frames and fire rated doors and machine them ourselves?
A: To machine the fire rated wood frames and doors, you must first be under either UL or WHI labeling services. For the doors you must obtain permission from the appropriate door manufacturer. The fire rated frames approval must be granted by SDI.

Q: What is SDI's standard lead time on stock material?
A: Stock slabs: 1 - 2 days
Doors with standard machining: 3 - 4 days
Frames and Millwork: 2 - 3 weeks

Q: What are the glazing options on SDIs 45 minute sidelight/borrowed light?
A: 1/4" wire glass and Firelite

Q: Does SDI stock frames and millwork?
A: Yes. SDI stocks standard size jambs and some standing and running trim.

Q: Does SDI have a 20 minute positive pressure frame and sidelight/borrowed light?
A: SDI does have a 20 minute positive pressure door frame. We also have a positive pressure 45 minute sidelight/borrowed light in lieu of the 20 minute sidelight/borrowed light.

Q: How soon can we get them?
A: That depends on what you are looking for.

Q: What is the maximum size for a pair of 60 minute doors?
A: The max size for a pair of 60 minute doors as well as a 90 minute pair is 8/0 x 8/0.

Q: Do I need to have metal edges on fire rated pairs?
A: Not on 20 minute pairs, if fire retardant stiles are in the doors. The 60 and 90 minute doors SDI stocks will require metal edges or metal edge and astragal. Under positive pressure, all pairs will require either an overlapping astragal or intumescent at the meeting edges.

Q: Can SDI supply positive pressure or smoke doors in accordance with UBC 7-2?
A: SDI can furnish "P" and "S" labeled doors right out of our inventory.

Q: How many people work at SDI?
A: Currently there are 49 people working at SDI.

Q: How can SDI meet my delivery need when it gets busy?
A: SDI now has two production shifts to better utilize the plant and equipment more efficiently. We are currently running at 98% on-time delivery.

Q: Do I need to coordinate my door order?
A: No. SDI will handle all the coordination of your doors, hardware and wood frames.

Q: Do I need to send templates with my orders?
A: Current templates are nice but they are not necessary. We have registered template books with most of the major hardware lines, but we may call and ask that you send us a template if it is something we are not familiar with.

Q: What is SDI policy on freight damage?
A: SDI will chase down all freight claims as long as they are acknowledged on the bill of lading. Our claim policy at SDI is that all cartons/crates must be inspected before signing of delivery ticket or bill of lading.

A: SDI carries both Eggers and Weyerhaeuser doors which have a lifetime warranty.
